I just wish I had known then what I know now…

At the age of 17, I had a serious injury to my spine while playing soccer. Having been told at the hospital that there was nothing I could do to correct the problem, taking medication to manage the pain seemed to be my only option. I was told to stop playing soccer. Two years later, having to have surgery on a fractured collarbone, I was suffering more pain in my back from lying in the hospital bed then I was on recovering from the collarbone surgery. Back surgery was then being contemplated.

My grandmother then sent me to her chiropractor. For the first time, I experienced a thorough, caring doctor interested in the cause of my symptoms and my overall health. He took a thorough history, did a full examination, and took x-rays. Within weeks, chiropractic care began to transform my health situation, but even bigger than that, it taught me what health actually is and got me back on the soccer field!

After graduating from Carleton University in Ottawa, with a bachelor degree in Biology, I went on to CMCC in Toronto, Ontario. I completed a four-year chiropractic curriculum and received my Doctor of Chiropractic, (DC) diploma in 1996.

After completing my chiropractic degree, I was fortunate enough to meet a local chiropractor in Streetsville. He became my mentor and friend and I worked with him for 7 years before I founded Universal Chiropractic.

Universal Chiropractic opened it doors on June 30th, 2003. At Universal Chiropractic, it is our mission to teach people and their families about health, and give them all the tools they need to reach their optimal health goals. Our core values are to stimulate peoples ' ability to heal and be whole naturally without the use of drugs or surgery.

Away from the office, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Tracy and our two daughters. We love working out, swimming, cooking and venturing out to the local market on weekends. Our daughters have had the benefit of chiropractic care since birth. I also still play soccer and have every year for the last 20 years.

Finally, I enjoy attending chiropractic and natural health seminars. I am certified in Chiropractic BioPhysics and have studied Pediatric Chiropractic since 2006 with the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association.

Thanks for visiting our website. I hope I get the opportunity to meet you in person and discuss your specific health challenge. Give your Mississauga chiropractor a call or email me using the link below.

As a 14 year old practicing ‘high jump’, I tripped and fell flat on my tail bone.

My mother took me to a local chiropractor, but quite skeptical, I refused to let him adjust my tail bone. Soon I developed headaches and was only out of pain over the next two years when I took the pain reliever, Excedrin. I averaged six to eight pills a day. At age 16, my mother took me back to chiropractic, now for my headaches. Dr. West had saved my mother from surgery by working on her neck after she was injured in a car accident. Within two months I was headache free. He never tired of encouraging me to ‘join’ the profession.

After undergraduate work in natural sciences at McMaster University, I studied at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto. I was fortunate to intern at what we called the satellite clinic, where interns were likely to see more serious conditions and patients who could not afford their care. This was important to me, because right after graduation, I was in a solo practice for five years, and I had to know what I was doing; there was no one else to ask.

New techniques and research have always been of great interest to me. I have averaged six seminars a year ever since graduation. I have been in four cities over my career, here and in Alberta; all enriching experiences.

I have been married for 30 years and we have two grown sons. We raised our boys on sports and time spent with family and close friends. We chose sports that we could participate in - soccer for the summer where my husband could coach and skiing for the winter - so we could all participate. Of course, there is always the gym...

Since the age of 16, I have been under consistent chiropractic care. Sometimes I need an adjustment due to pain or illness, more often, I receive an adjustment for preventative purposes. I do not take any medications.

Chiropractic played a valuable role in my own maternity and labor care. Our second child was born at home, and the labor was considerably accelerated with a chiropractic maneuver. I raised our sons on chiropractic care from birth. Children of chiropractors are statistically healthier and take far fewer medications. I found that to be true in our family. I have always enjoyed working with my maternity patients and helping them raise their children in a healthy way.

As a Mississauga chiropractor, I am an accomplished manual adjuster, but primarily use Activator Techniques in my practice, having achieved advanced rating. I am also a First Line therapist, a nutritional counseling service highly regarded for therapeutic lifestyle intervention.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you with your health goals, whether they be back pain related or overall wellness. I consider myself an excellent listener and hope I get the opportunity to meet you in person and discuss your specific health challenge. Universal Chiropractic Asks some important questions of interest to Mississauga residents - Chiropractor Mississauga Universal Chiropractic Asks...

How could a child benefit from chiropractic?
Regardless of our age, each of us in Mississauga encounters physical, chemical and emotional stresses that exceed our ability to handle. For newborns, it could be the trauma encountered at birth. For toddlers it could be from learning to walk or ride a bike. Many of the problems we chiropractors see in adults are the result of neglected traumas from childhood.
Can a chiropractor heal?
There's never been a case in which a doctor (chiropractor or otherwise) has formed scar tissue, mended a broken bone or cured a headache. Only you can do that. Turns out you're the doctor! All I do is help remove interferences to your body's healing ability. Ready to get started? Call our office today.
